I am working on melanin production in Cryptococcus neoformans. I was wondering if there is a way to separate the melanin from the lysate?

The organism uses phenolic substrate to produce melanin and to conduct an assay I would have to separate the melanin from the cell lysate. Can anyone give me any suggestions?
