I need more data on effective treatments. What are some contemporary avenues of research? What less drug-dependant and more holistic, naturopathic and dietary approaches are being worked on? Thanks,
Danna, there are many resources. One of the best all-around primers on ADHD in adults is Barkley, Murphy, & Fischer's ADHD in Adults: What the Science Says. The Journal of Attention Disorders has also had several relatively recent special issues focusing on prevalence, treatment, and other issues related to ADHD in adulthood (2008- Vol 11 (6), 2009- Vol 13 (3)). You should also look at research and treatments developed by Ramsay & Rostain, Safren et al., Solanto, and Zylowska, as a start. In addition, macronutrient "therapy" for ADHD in adults, specifically, has been examined by Julia Rucklidge in New Zealand. She has published her work and it is interesting. FInally, you might also look at Monastra's Unlocking the Potential of Patients with ADHD book. It is a fair review of treatment approaches and includes a focus on EEG and nutrition that is relatively novel.
Are you still researching ADHD? I am interested in meeting other researchers who have done behavioral research on adults with ADHD, specifically excluding pharma solutions. My dissertation research was focused on adults with ADHD and their workplace experiences.
