My small NGO is working to ensure the future of the Mirbeck Oak, Quercus canariensis/marianica, a beautiful native tree that has almost disappeared from Portugal. Our dream is to create a large reserve for this and other threatened local flora and experimental planting will begin soon.

In order to reduce reforestation losses during summer droughts, I plan to add hygroscopic polymers to holes dug in 30-40cm deep horizontal furrows on hillsides. ResearchGaters' experienced advice in regards to this product and any other advice related to ground preparation, protective tubes, etc., for arid zone reforestation will be much appreciated.
