Friends, I want to perform LC/MS for marigold oleoresin before saponification and after saponification. Most of the available literature pertains to LCMS using APCI source for ionization. But certain labs say they have HRMS. Are they both same? Can the LCMS protocol can be used for it? Also will there any difference in the results obtained?
HRMS is a high resolution mass spectrum which has a more accurate molecular mass it means it can distinguish the difference between the interference ions which has a very similar parent ion with the target ion and the target ions.
Besides, HRMS should be more sensitive than the LC-MS according to my experience. As the HRMS has a different working ways with LC-MS. The working you need to do is to search the data base to get the accurate molecular weight and adducts ions, and tune you target compounds to get verification. I would not recommend you follow the LC/MS protocol but for the LC condition.
