I am curious at the geographical variation of smell perception towards some ants when they are crushed. Please, if you have these tiny pest insects at home and would be willing to sacrifice few workers, could you provide me your location and how would you describe the smell they give off when crushed? Thanks in advance!
In my experience in Central Pennsylvania, United States of America, that I find the smell to be spoiled/rotten coconut. Most of these encounters are with T. sessile, not T. melanocephalum.
For the case of Tapinoma melanocephalum in central Colombia, it smells like fermented beer when you crush the ant workers.
When I crushed some worker of Tapinoma melanocephalum I found someone bad oddor not good like crushed bad coconut in sindh Agriculture University Tando jam Pakistan
