Environmental degradation and atmospheric pollution is one of problems of the world over. There have been increased cry about climate change, global warming kept on threatening yet, natural resources like forest that regulates an appealing atmosphere is being cut down. Industries are growing and making use of natural resources without properly accounting for them.
The world at large has need to evaluate, assess and effect accounting reporting for raw materials, energy consumption and use of natural resources which have gradually depleted the environment.
It is obvious there are no uniform standards. Some activities, lands, waters, industries and ownerships are more heavily regulated than others. I suppose there would be differences also by city, county, state, and nation. Those with environmental analysis and disclosure responsibilities run the risk is they do not do an acceptable job of analysis, disclosure and decision, they are at greater risk. The environmental risks are complex and variable. The risk from failed actions may include appeals, civil suites and legal actions. Some are able for one reason or another to fly under the radar, and you only find out about the mishaps when there is failure or excessive damages. The more we know about activities, the more we can assess their impacts. Some activities probably use way too many resources to be justified, yet a lot of things are not regulated. It sounds very complex and difficult to accomplish your objective.
