Industry 4.0 will reshape the future of every thing not only supply chain. The future research trends on production, inventory, distribution, logistics ..etc are all going toward industry 4.0. Researchers are rushing now to have research based on industry 4.0. please check this one
supply chain management is vital for fmcg companies to address the demands of increasingly sophisticated supply chains and information sharing. industry 4.0 will make more processes to be digitised and reduce the common barriers to effective supply chain management.. due to this trend, more connected and efficient ecosystems could be created (theoretically, the trend will benefit everyone). industry 4.0 is more about smart factories.. i think you should focus on how logistics 4.0 affect fmcg industry instead since your question is about smart supply chain/supply chain 4.0.
@ Kah & Ahmed - thank you for your insightful inputs...I suppose 4.0 is inevitable and all supply chains will have to be agile in order to be sustainable. Suffice to say, this is the basis of my MBA dissertation.
I beleive that Industry 4.0 holds unprecedented potentials for the supply chain management. It is, indeed, essential for FMCG companies to address the demands of increasingly sophisticated supply chains and information sharing. It will increase rate of processes digital executions. This has been widely connected with acieving higher levels of sustainability as digital processes consume less energy, cause less pollutions and this will provide better financial and social performnce for FMCG comapnies.
