CT scan gives us the cross sections of any body from top to bottom. We can set the no. of cross sections for a required body. Each and every cross section contains set of points which makes it a loop (normally). This is what required for a 3D modelling machine, I mean, cross sectional data.

This is not the exact answer, however, just to give an idea.
