If you fabricate composite laminate consist of 8 ply [0,90,45,-45]s how we can detect the damage which occurred in laminate after impact test? I know C-scan method (NDT), but only detect the damage in surface of the composite, delamination and size of the failure area, so some one help to do that experimentally not numerically.
You can detect extremely small flaws and anomalies, deep under the surface in a composite laminates with a SQUID (superconducting Quantum Interference Device) magnetometer, the most sensitive magnetometer existing and an eddy coil. You can take a look at the enclosed paper .
have you heard of B scan or tomography, you will have a real 3D image of your damage
thanks a lot dear Adele and Florentin but B-scan for damage in thickness direction of the laminate , need to know the shape of the damage in each ply.
You can use a windowed C-scan. If you have access to the individual A-scan signals at each transducer location in the C-scan, you can look at a time window in each of them that corresponds to a specific depth (or range of depths) in the composite. This will allow you to get C-scan images of each of the layer interfaces, so you can tell which of them have delaminated, and over what area.
