I want to have one analysis on CP volamine GC column and i am getting some impurities are eluting at near about 280 degree temp up to 10 minute holding time.
The column Box mentioned the temp. 265/300.
Now i am not able to understand i can go up to 280 degree and hold for 10 minute or i can not go on this temperature.
The higher temperature can lead to 'column bleed' i.e. damage to the column. So, the temperature is an important parameter to be checked. In your case, the higher temperature limit is 265/300. It means you can use your column safely up to 265 oC. But, you can raise the column temperature up to 325 oC also for a short span of time (say 12-15 min). So, you can heat the column up to 280 oC and can hold for 10 min; that will not affect the column's health!
Based on the boiling range of the components of the sample to be analyzed. Accordingly the column, injector, and detector is to be programmed for its temperature.
265 will be a safe max temp. and 300 will be a max temp. with precaution not to hold for long time at temps. above 265 up to 300. Impurities not necessarily are coming from the column, you must check every possible source of impurities starting from sample prep then your autosampler then the injection port then maybe try to trim 3 cm from the beginning of the column.
