The formal name of British America during the colonial period (17 - 18 centuries) was colonies when it was 13 colony , and it used until 1776, July 4, when the colonies decided to separate from the mother country, and choose the Declaration, since that date they start to use
The Word "Sect" refer to describe the Variety of Protestant Church in England and America, you may prefer to use word "Denomination" or "congregation".
I do not know much about the American Colonies. India also a peculiar country which deals a unique problem such as a Caste which create a Social Stratification and which weak one caste group to another based on the Birth Order. If you are so much interested we can discuss that,
Hello Abdullah, I am pleased to meet you. From my American History book Abdullah sects nor denominations are not discussed. What is discussed is how because of the desire to worship God in a way that was different from the Church of England the Pilgrims came to America seeking religious freedom. While in America, they made friends with the natives, built homes that became small towns whose names are present today. At least some of them are. England not willing to give us their political rights to the citizens in the new world posed taxes on exports that was not fair to the new republic. This new republic rebelled against the King of England, all thirteen colonies along with partnership with France, Russia, Spain and probably others and started a war. If I recall correctly it was called The Revolutionary War. George Washington was one of the heroic generals in the war that help to defeat the British rule in America. When the war was over, America was a new nation made up of many races. They formed a government called a Democracy where the authority and rule was govern by the people, of the people and for the people. George Washington was elected to be the 1st President in this new nation and a government was formed. It was decided that this new nation would be called The United States of America. America, because they believe that Amerigo Vespucis discovered this country, although the Indians were of course already here. Where the Indians come from is another story. It had something to do with a migration from the Northern part of the world. Any way the denomination of the Pilgrims is never discussed in the American History Books nor are the sects of other migrants are discussed in the American History Books. American History books basically deals with how this nation became a government, the struggles of the settlers and the war with England. Denominations and sects are not discussed.
It is repeated that religious dissidents in 13 colonies were the force essential for independency and democracy, in opposition to official Church (anglicanism), more traditional. Nevertheless, I see that, in catholic America (without protestantism absent), we will found alsos forces that fight for independence (form Spain or Bresil) and political freedom. We can make the hyptohesis that the project of political freedom dont succeded ant turned in autoritarism "caudillismo") by the lake of religious minorities, dissidents and critics, otherwise than in the USA:
Abdullah if you are interested in denominations and sects in America then you may want to ask a question about Church History in America. In my Divinity courses I took two Church History courses going further back then the church fathers. It went back to Plato and Aristotle. It discussed the synoptics and also how the Roman government embraced Christianity. It discusses Martin Luther and his break with Catholicism. It discusses Muhammad and how Islam came into being. It discusses the crusades; the war with Islam during the Crusades. The covenant that was made by the Crusaders. There was so much information in my divinity course about Church History. I did two terms paper. I did one on Islam and I did one on Pentecostalism. I learned a whole lots. My instructor favored me so he helped me. God Bless you and I hope you get the answer you are looking for. I cannot think of any book that discusses denominations and sects in America. God Bless!!!
