@Josef have said fine in his answer, but he has got downvote. Yes, in order to write good technical book, industry experience is needed, not only academic. Practice is the key, of course, not the only one. People/experts that have had practice do write good technical books.
I've some experience in this domain and I would be happy to help... First of all, check the program you've got to work on then think about the level you're starting with and the one you one to reach. Plan a nice incrementation, a logical and easy plan to follow; start feeling up your chapters with useful references and examples. You need to be didactic anytime and you'd rather use examples and short sentences, the one that are easy to remember... In order to do so, use an adapted vocabulary and always think about what you would like to read if you were correcting an exam on this subject. And upon all this, always think as a student... It's probably the best advice I could give you about that!
It depends of the degree of complexity of the book. For example, a book with only letters is possible to be written in Word. Also with formulae or simple statistical representations. But, if the book contains other technical graphics, etc. it could be necessary the help of an expert editor.
Selfediting is a possibility in the first cases, but in the last case it is necessary the help of an editorial which believes in your project of book.
When you write the book imagine what you would have liked to have found in a technical book on writing dissertations and thesis. Simple to understand good examples of referencing in text different referencing styles. How to structure a piece of research work. The book should be good enough that the reader can go back to it again and again to revisit writing styles, use of language how to say something and make it sound technical and smart. How to be direct in your writing language. Examples of good and bad referencing so that graduates and learners can clearly see the difference. Work around structuring your thesis its layout guidance on literary reviews styles of research. Find someone who is passionate about the work who is reaching to achieve the same goal as yourself and dreams of achieving the ultimate template book giving guidlines to future skilled researchers and thinkers.
First you have to check if a book with similar contents, you think about, does exist anywhere. Mostly something exists and you have to find out how to do it better. Doing this, you soon will find out that the better book needs more investment of time. Working out new contents especially including new technical aspects requires a disproportionately time-consuming effort. A good book, similarly to selling thousands of copies, needs additional not only writing a good story but also investing in a good marketing concept.
Being an author for one dozen titles , this is my earnest feeling and experience:
1.First of all , an author should be thoroughly knowledgeable on the subject.
2.Should identify the need whether a text book is required at all , there is no fun in writing a book on a subject where quite a lot of good books are available. Publisher will always ascertain the marketability.
3.Organize the chapters in the increasing order of proficiency.
4.Prepare the manuscript chapter-by-chapter making a good number of references.
5.Every new chapter should give a connect to the previous chapter for good readability.
6.After completion of the write-up, contact a good publisher.
"Writing a book can be both an exhilarating and an exhausting experience! It can help your career by giving you visibility, recognition from your community and set you apart as an achiever. Personally, you will get a sense of achievement and some additional income. Inspired by the line “Anyone can cook!” from the movie Ratatouille, I believe that anyone can write a book! In this talk, I outline the book writing process, debunk common myths about book writing, and provide a realistic perspective on what it takes to write a book..."
