I am currently using Arena simulation software to build a model to represent discrete manufacturing for cellular layout. Through batch processing based on part type and size of two items, I would like the 1st item from part type-A batch to incur both setup and processing times on a machine (M1). However, the 2nd item from part type-A batch, must only incur processing time on M1.
Additionally, if part type-B batch is schedule and is of a different family type, the 1st item from part type-B batch must incur both setup and processing times on a machine (M1); and the 2nd item from part type-B batch must only incur processing time on M1.
Furthermore, if the part type-C batch is of the same family type, both the 1st and 2nd items from the part type-C batch should only incur processing time on M1.
Thus far, I have attempted using decide modules.
Suggestions will be appreciated.
Dear Jainarine, you can certainly use decide modules to perform this.
Another way is to use an Assign module that assigns the values of the 'setup time' each entity that have to be processed:
setup time = (intVariable)*setupTime
Then you can use just one decide module: if the model type is equal to the preceding model type (you can store this on a variable), than intVariable = 0, otherwise intVariable = 1.

I had previously used create modules (arrival of parts based on an expression), assign modules (for Part Index as a DISC, Entity Type, Entity Sequence), Batch and Separate modules, Sequence data module. Now the challenges are: based on the initial questions and with respect to setup (seize-delay) and processing times (delay-release) as two sequential processes within the same machine, and also with processing time (seize-delay-release). How to input this as a decision making process and in which modules? I will appreciate some detail guidance. Recall this arrangement is for batch processing within a cellular layout. Thanks.
