Good day everyone. I am currently working on my research project about green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant leaf extract. And it turns out that my plant extract is gooey even though I already tried it extracted at room temp and high temp. Can I still use this for my synthesis process and how do I separate my nanoparticles from the solution? Thank you very much for your time.

thanks for sharing this interesting technical problem with the RG community. When you evaporate a plant extract (obtained e.g. by extraction with water or ethanol) it is quite normal that you will obtain a gooey / sticky / oily residue. Please keep in mind that plant extracts are not pure compounds, but rather weird mixtures of very many different compounds. I assume that you can still use this material for the preparation of silver nanoparticles. Just redissolve the sticky residue in the same solvent which was used for the extraction process. It's only important that you get a clear solution. Filter the solution if necessary and then you can go a head with the Ag NP preparation. This will give you numerous freely accessible papers with detailed procedures
