Quite easy and difficult at the same time... Choose carefully your journal regarding your topic and the impact you're looking for, the public you want to reach, the area and international connections. Then read carefully the recommendations provided by the board and strictly adapt your manuscript to these guidelines. Then send it! Usually take care to avoid sending any previously published paper or too close to it.

Hi Garimella, the advice of Dr Thierry is good. I sent my first paper with my supervisor to a journal and it was accepted so easily. At that time, I wondered how it would be if I did it on my own. After some years of submitting conference papers, I sent one to the same journal. And I had to make many improvements based on the comments of the reviewers. I am thankful to the reviewers. Good luck. From mobile.
First and foremost you must choose an appropriate journal for your submission. Once, it is done then read and follow all the instructions to the author. Prepare your manuscript to the best of your ability to fulfill the requirements of that journal. Especial attention must be give to grammar and avoiding plagiarism.
Successful production of a written product for submission to a peer‐reviewed scientific journal requires substantial effort. Such an effort can be maximized by following a few simple suggestions when composing/creating the product for submission. By following some suggested guidelines and avoiding common errors, the process can be streamlined and success realized for even beginning/novice authors as they negotiate the publication process. (See Hoogenboom, et al., Int J Sports Phys Ther. 2012 Oct; 7(5): 512–517. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3474301/pdf/ijspt-07-512.pdf)
If your publication is an original research article, then of course, the first step is to perform the research in the library and lab, then prepare the manuscript depending up on the journal of choice, by following the guidelines of that journal.
You can also publish a review article, which is not an original research publication. In this case also, you need to do your research in the library to prepare your manuscript.
In addition to following the specific guidelines for writing for a specific journal, it may be a good idea to follow a reputed English Style Guide, e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style and Turabian Style Guide for Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations; both published by the University of Chicago Press (http://www.press.uchicago.edu/books/turabian/turabian_citationguide.html).
