I want to study the anchoring mode of a pyridine dye on TiO2 nanoparticles. I searched and a lot of papers study that by FTIR using by the attenuated total reflectance (ATR) method. I tried to measure the TiO2 film (FTO glass) sensitized with the dye, but the spectra are not intense to see the bands. Maybe it is possible sensitized TiO2 podwer with the dye and then study the ATR? someone with experience in these studies?

FTIR is quite an insensitive method for this purpose. So I would recommend that you try to reveal the anchoring mode of dye onto TiO2 using nanoparticles, not film – the smaller particles, the better. As you know, you have to compare the FTIR spectra of components with modified particles to see do they differ.

Pyridine anchoring is an effective method to measure acid sites ( Brønsted and Lewis ) in photocatalysts and catalysts. There are some procedures you can follow in the literature, I recommend these papers.

I would propose you to check the possibility of using XPS (X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy). I believe it would give you a better solution to your problem.
