Idea is good Directly no one will fund this project. You can start at home itself in small scale and multiply and create market. You only require proper warms and proper conditions.

That's really a nice initiative. Contact with nearby Agriculture University or any SPOC nearby for attending a one month short course about vermicompost production and you will get a certificate from Agriculture Skill Council of India which helps alot for taking any assistance in terms of loan or subsidy from the Government.

This is a low cost investment. Usually vermicompost is produced for own consumption. The marketability is always a challenge. Loans are therefore difficult to obtain.

Hi Roy Chowdhary, the upcoming boosting over the MSMEs will have lot of chance for initiating vermicompost at a reasonable scale. Please explore. The second phase of Swachch Bharath is just launched now to explore on the composting technique using crop waste and other waste that get generated at villages. As a nano initiative, one can tie-up with the Gram Panchayati and take this up as a project. If it is in urban areas that could become micro enterprise. Depending on your access, please explore them.

To establish the production of vermicompost it is not necessary to have a lot of money, it can be established with local and cheap materials. The important thing is to have earthworms. this is an interesting discussion I very much enjoy following. Probably because I went through the process myself from a senior soil scientist working on a vermicomposting process and starting my own vermicomposting operation back in 2008. While growing the business, it 2 times went through some serious cashflow periods which we obviously managed but could have also taken us out of business.

If you only want to vermicompost just some organic resources as an add-on-business you can get some worms, build a worm farm get some organic resources and give it a go. See what the market offers and earn some extra money on the side.

If you want to build a serious business you need to get your business model as precise as you can right from the start. You will never get it absolutely right but you can adjust as you passing on. It is essential to understand the market for the vermicast and or worms. Especially if you start producing large volumes. Prices for the vermicompost and therefor revenue will change with supply. For example when I started, the price for vermicompost was $265/t. We now selling vermicast for $30 to $50 /t. It is absolutely crucial to understand the market dynamic.
