Asian countries, particularly India are the hot spots for the diversity of unique mango varieties. The new world got mangoes from this region and gradually in more than hundred countries it is being grown. About 400 years back, mango was grown in very few countries and presently the number has crossed 100. Population pressure and commercialization of mango cultivation has led to colossal loss to varietal wealth. Still thousands of unique mango varieties are being conserved by the farmers but they don't get good price in the wholesale or local markets. Splendid diversity in fruit taste, colour, shape and aroma attract each and every human being to taste rare mangoes. Commercial varieties are abundant in markets but the fruit of unique varieties can be tasted in multiple varietal orchards. Farmers can get good price for their unique mangoes and the orchards may become fantastic place to visit during mango season. Making this non-commercial varieties and orchards place for common person can save several heirloom varieties from their extinction. Eco tourism during mango season can help the poor farmers in savings the rare mango varieties on their farm.
