I understand that Nickel chloride hexahydrate should not be heated in the autoclave, but how then am I supposed to sterilize the Nickel chloride before adding it to the hot agar solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as any specifics for the methods (I'm a field ecologist who does not work in the lab very often).
