I've uploaded my picture, but this site thinks my face should lean on the side rather than up.
I tried rotating before uploading, but the site is obstinate!
Any advice will be appreciated.

I propose to delete the current version, make the portrait quadratic in size and upload it again. See also https://explore.researchgate.net/display/support/Profile+photos.

I did resize it in square form earlier, but it shouldn't be done with the site's tool as rotation isn't changed.
It needs to be done prior to uploading, landscape mode being OK ( it can be resized after uploading).
This preference for landscape mode doesn't make any sense to me, as most id pictures are in portrait mode.
I hope this maybe useful to other befuddled users.

Indeed, some functions in ResearchGate are tricky, and some are like the actions of a black box (e.g. how citations are identified). I am glad that you could solve this problem.
