Where was your file located? If it was in the same disk you run operating system off of, I recommend removing the disk from your computer as soon as possible and then attaching it to a separate computer, so you can run a recovery tool on it. Though I've never used file recovery software myself, I've seen positive comments about Piriform Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva), so I think it's worth a try. You may want to create an image of your disk before running any tools on it. Another option is to hire the services of a data recovery company, but that could be expensive. Best regards and good luck!
First of all, you have not specified your operation system (Windows 7, windows 8, etec.) but even though i attached some articles, youtubes and websites for you to see:
Try Piriform Recuva as suggested above by Roger. I used it before and I guess it will find and recover your deleted file. Try in the future working on Dropbox which can keep your files safe and synchronised. Previously, I permanently deleted a folder from my Dropbox which I regretted later on, but I recovered it by taking a copy from another machine of that folder before the "mother source", Dropbox, gets to update its local version on that machine (I had to disable the internet connection for a while though).
