I am trying to rear freshwater Ceratopogonidae larvae to associate them with adult forms. I have found only a handful of references mostly related to Culicoides sp. Any extra information on lab conditions like oxygen requirements and diet would be valuable.
There is a good list of references in the bibliographic section of this chapter about the biology of Ceratopogonidae that can be useful to rear the larvae.

I have never tried rearing Ceratopogonid larvae, but I have seen them do well in a rain gutter filled with moist, decaying elm leaves (I don't think the gutters on my parents' house had been cleared in years). I don't know the genus, but it probably wasn't Culicoides. Whatever they were, they weren't people biters.
Remember that the eggs have to be laid on exposed mud. The larger the water-shore interface, the more available habitat
