Groundwater reliance and abuse can be a major issue locally, sometimes regionally and especially in the interface with potential for salt water intrusion. Surely of major importance is the inventory, mapping and monitoring of these resources. To do these questions justice, qualified geologists, geomorphologists, hydrogeologists and water quality hydrologists should be consulted and included in management plans and setting appropriate BMPs pertinent to the local or area wide conditions. Restrictions and regulations are typically addressed at federal or state levels, and civil actions normal to address public or personal issues of major impact or justice. For long term needs and uses, it is desirable to balance recharge with withdrawals, and in the coastal interface, factoring in sea level rise would have some importance. withdrawal and removal of both groundwater and surface waters are interconnected with these questions. In areas with limited data, perhaps a requirement for regular monitoring of ground water levels and quality (salinity or conductance) might be considered as a condition for some users. This would help define the levels of groundwater withdrawals and rates of well recharge. Well drillers might be another untapped resource of information, based on their experience and well data and substrate drilling logs collected.

You have to do GW vulnerability assessment by using a certain method like DRASTIC. This DRASTIC method might be used to mapping the vulnerable and pollutant sources area. once you identify the vulnerable area and pollutant source area, then you can apply remedial measures and prevention methods.

We need to determine the safe yield of each an aquifer. This means that we shall not be width drawing a lot of water which might end up impairing water quality and quantity in a given basin.

Monitoring and detecting aquifer recharge zones are crucial. This can be done by a hydrogeological analysis using for example fluorometers. We do this kind of analysis with our start-up TRAQUA (www.traqua.be).
