Hello Harasit; When I was a schoolboy (70 years ago), this pest as well as pinworms would surge in one classroom and then spread across the school. The health department sent a notice to all families that on a particular day all the kids were treated for their condition(s), ALL clothing and bedding in all the homes were washed in hot water. The house was also thoroughly dusted. The epidemic abated...for a while. This routine was more or less an annual affair. Fastidious cleanliness minimized the risk.

Now that there are clothes dryers in most houses (in the USA) the problem is so small that most students don't have the experience any more. The modern world is better than it was then! Best regards, Jim Des Lauriers

Dear James Des Lauriers, do you want to know the measures we take? (Maybe I misunderstood you). Measures that are usually taken to deal with the cases:

i. Treatment with a topical anti-parasitic drug (Mainly Permethrin cream),

ii. Systemic Ivermectin (In selective cases. Avoided in pregnancy, lactating mother and elderly with compromised renal function)

iii. Systemic antihistamines

iv. Treatment of contacts

iv. Counselling regarding personal hygiene and ways to prevent transmission, proper application of drugs.
