I would like to use methyl triflate for a methylation reaction. Methyl triflate came as a 9M liquid. What is a good solvent for pre-diluting methyl triflate? Can I predilute it in 1:2 v/v nitromethane/sulfolane?
I am not a chemist and being extra cautious with handling toxic chemicals. I will really appreciate the advice.

Dear Evgeniia Yoda, methyl triflate can be diluted e.g. with nitromethane or dichloromethane. Methyl triflate is a very strong methylation agent and as such it is highly toxic. Your are certainly doing right when handling this chemical with extra caution.

As you know the MeOTf, is the organic compound with the formula CF3SO2OCH3. It is a colourless liquid which finds use in organic chemistry as a powerful methylating agent. It's highly toxic, so, you must be take care with predilute it in dichloromethane
Dear Evgeniia, I don't recommend using methyl triflate without having a chemist colleague advise you on the procedure. You must have a good chemical hood (fume hood), and biosafety hoods (laminar flow hoods) are useless. The experiment might need to be carried out in someone else's lab. Please stay safe.
