In my PhD research I have developed in total four elastic viscoplastic models considering associated flow rule and non-associated flow rule and validated them in triaxial space along with general stress space. Now, I am implementing my model to capture real time embankment behavior of 3 real embankments in Australia, which are highly instrumented and monitored for long term performance. Initially I have implemented my model in AFENA (UNSW@ADFA version), to plot the embankment I have used GEOTOP for pre-processing and FELPA for post processing. However, I am not happy with the quality of the embankment mesh plot. To get rid from this situation I have used also MATLAB function (free version), unfortunately the mesh of the FEM is messed up.
I am wondering, can anybody extend co-operation, how deformed Finite Element mesh of the embankment can be plotted easily?

I don't think it is probable to gain easiness and flexibility simultaneously. If you want to use third-party tools to aid your plotting, then you are limited by their constraints. However, if you want to plot your ideal effects, you do have to start from lower level stuff such as nodal coordinates, connectivity and element-wish rendering etc. I guess maybe you can try ParaView. I never use it but I do hear very positive recommendations from my friends.
Performing interesting views of large meshes is not an easy task. In any way you will have to develop routines that will translate the output of your post-processor in the format of your visualization tool.
You may have a look at VTK (http://www.vtk.org/) to perform nice views.
The finite element toolbox SDT (www.sdtools.com) that we are developing also allows very customizable view generation in the MATLAB environment. It is based on the openFEM software (www.openfem.net - open source but with more limited features). You may check this out if you are interested in working in MATLAB.
