I already have the landsldie polygons using the method of visual interpretation on optical RS image. Then I want to partition the whole landslide polygon into source area and deposition area. Are there any rules or guidlines to do this?Thank you in advance.

Usually the slope characteristics of the terrain (convexity and concavity) is used to differentiate the source and deposition area of a landslide polygon. i think you can easily identify the division by overlying the landslide polygon with a DEM.

I think the easier way to make this without headache, is create a hillshade raster with your DEM and put the solar angle in the best place to show what you want to find. Besides, you can complement that with a slopesmap.
