Dear all experts,
I did FEA of nanoindentation with using Abaqus and considered displacement of reference point (RP) on the indenter as a punching tool. Moreover, Abaqus/Explicit method was applied for solving problems.
But I do not know how to plot Force-Indention depth curve via FEA with using Abaqus.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take the displacement aand reaction force at the RP. You can obtain tthem from the odb. And This should give you the force vs. displacement.
In experiment, generally, the displacement and force is taken from the indenter by using a control feed system. So, assume the same way in the simulation.

Mighty thanks for your novel method and solution. It does make sense.
I followed your instruction and plotted the curve but looks totally different from the original result obtained from nanoindentation experimental test.
For further info, The curves were enclosed.

Hi Amin, the graph quality is not that good. Anyway, I got an idea from those. I think your interaction betweem indenter and material is not right. The indenter is going through the material may be. Can you olease answer few questions and provide me the displacement contour plot of the indented material.
1. How do you apply the force? It should be at a constant rate. But from graph it looks like sinosoidal.
2. How do you creater interaction between indenter and indented material? Master-slave?
I think this 2 question will clear up few things and may help to identify
the problem. Also, please provide the displacement contour plot of the indentation region.

Firstly, I would like to appreciate for devoting your time and energy for this topic.
Regarding your questions:
1) RP point was chose to punch material so that I defined a displacement for that (loading and unloading). I did not define any force to punch material.
2) While defining contact property for contact surface, needle was assumed a rigid body with surface to surface interaction.
I would like to bring your attention to this fact that the indenter punches a spherical material. The sinusoidal response of force can be attributed to material shape.

I use Abaqus explicit to simulate nanoindentation test, and I get the reaction force curve very similar with yours, but I could not find the reason for that, so have you solved the problem? I will appreciate any of your suggestions, thanks a lot!

The reason for you getting the graphs that way is because while specifying the displacement boundary condition you chose an amplitude with a smooth curve. Smooth curve has zero velocity at the start and end as you can see in the displacement time graph. Your force time curve is a result of that
