I don't know which software you are using and which data you have, but such kind of pole figures and textures of polycrystalls are commonly plotted using MTEX (free toolbox for MATLAB).

If I understood your problem, you may use Origin software to generate these images with specific tool (polar plot) with smoothed data. (You may try to smooth your data before plot).

I guess it will works.

Добрый вечер, Ольга! Извините, что пишу на русском, надеюсь, Вы вполне им владеете. Проблема более-менее известна. Вероятно, вы определяете полюсные фигуры по плотности точек "выхода" выбранного направления на стереографическое проекции. Правильнее определять плотность на сферической проекции. Дело в том, что площадь проекции сферической площадки на стереографическую плоскость зависит от углов, например, при приближении к направлению [1 0 0]  она увеличивается, при приближении к   [0 0 1] - уменьшается. Это и ведет к кажущемуся возрастанию плотности вблизи последнего.

Dear Olga, I am not sure I got your question correctly, but I think the problem is that you try to do a stereographic projection of a polycrystal.  In general pole figures are quite meaningful for monocrystals (or single domain grain). Perhaps is better to produce phi-scans for each grain.  Regards

The recommendation of MTEX is certainly the best since it will generate any pole figures as stereographic projection or equal area projection.

I guess your problem is somewhere else: the simulation of a non-textured material. I have no idea which code you are using but many people assume that a random distribution of Euler angles will do this job. This is unfortunately totally wrong an will cause the mentioned textured material for (001). But it might also be the result of the stereographic projection since this also produce in the center a slightly higher density of spots in case of a non-textured distribution. But this is only a virtual effect and can be prevented using the equal area projection. Whereas the stereographic projection is a conformal projection, the equal area is not. The calculation of the projection of a pole is very easy if you have the Cartesian coordinates (x,y,z): xs=x/(1+z) and ys=y/(1+z) , i.e. you can even do this with Excel although the number of cells seems to be too high for my.

Equal area projection of (x,y,z) is by the way similar: xae=x/(1+z)0.5, yae=y/(1+z)0.5 

Maybe Maud is also an option?

thanks a lot for your answer. I have also faced the problem concerning the simulation of a non-textured material. Currently, I use the different approaches to simulate a non-textured material and try to compare them as well.

If I remember correctly MTEX includes a code generating a non-textured orientation distribution. Even if you will develop an own code (as I've heard preferred are quaternions) you should compare it with MTEX. If you are not familiar with it don't hesitate to contact Ralf Hielscher.

Is it not possible to somehow import the data into TSL software?
