Some, perhaps many Universities and Colleges offer free or marked down rates to full time employees. Basically you work full time, then study on your own spare time. Some supervisors may let you occassionally attend class, cram for a critical test or do a little studying during your work schedule. As a student, I was known as a hard serious worker, so I was hired by the Hydrology professor. As an employee, and interested in my work, I decided to go for the MS Degree. The advantage of full time work, and studying, is you probably will live frugally, but able to support yourself and young family. Universities usually have good medical insurance benefits, which I did not have as a student, and it never hurts to get to know all the professors as an employee of the University. Since you mentioned statistics, many graduate students need help with statistical design and analysis. Some students or projects with research budgets might hire someone with good statistical skills and expertise.
