I am to refer to an earlier proposed protocol, which is nameless, in abstract of my paper . How should I mention that protocol in abstract of my paper? Should I add reference of that paper into my abstract or there is any other better way to work with? Reference included/excluded instances are given below, as my mind devised.
1. I compared my protocol with the protocol proposed in [1].
2. I compared my protocol with a recently proposed protocol.

Never have a citation in an abstract. You don't need to mention the protocol comparison, except in your discussion
