One of my project requirements is to measure temperature and humidity in the growing environment of plant. The plant will be grown inside a petri dish with nutrient gel. A waterproof temperature sensor might do the job but it will end up measuring the temperature of the gel. Is there any way to measure the ambient conditions in the petri dish, but not the gel?
Nutrient get is a part of the growing environment of the plant. Should one expect
temperature or humidity variation within the growing environment? Sensors attached to the petri-dish can possibly measure temperature and humidity of the growing environment.
Since there won't be direct contact with gel or water in the petri dish, a simple sensor like the DHT11 series can do the job to relay ambient conditions, both the temperature & humidity. For a more rugged application where contact with the gel or water is unavoidable, waterproof sensors like DS18b20 temperature sensor would be more suitable in such case. But for this case, I think a DHT can handle the job.
