I want to compare the bone volume of two samples, to know whether the bone was destroyed and bone erosions etc..
I scanned the bone using micro-CT.
I found that in many papers they just show the images of bone erosions without comparing the accurate data of bone volume.
I wonder if there's a way I can know the bone volume of a sample?

You need to use a few software to do this.
You should first process micro CT files with Slicer.
Then you should cover it with Mesh mixer.
Then you can calculate the volume of the obtained * .stl formatted file using a program such as Solidworks.

To calculate the volume of an object in Solidworks you must have either the original Solidworks file or an .STL file to convert into a Solidworks object.
If you have an .STL:
Press the Open button in either the Solidworks toolbar or the File menu (shortcut Ctrl-O).
Select .STL as the file type.
Press the options button and select Solid Body.
Find the .STL file in the prompt and open it.
With the imported .STL or Soldiworks part, click the "Evaluate" tab.
Click the "Material Properties" button.
A dialog box will open with many different material properties of the open object, including the volume.
If this you wish to print this part in the GVU Prototyping Lab, make sure the volume is reported as cubic inches. If it is not, you can use the "Options" button at the top of the dialog box to change the units Solidworks uses to present these properties.
With the volume in cubic inches you're now ready to calculate an estimated cost for your 3D print or submit the job with our submission form. ''
I have found that Materialise MIMICS software is used for this purpose, just don`t know is it expensive or not.
You can do this using Materialse MIMICS:
1. Import your micro-CT data in the project.
2. Use the "Threshold" tool to select the intensity using "Bone" filter.
3. Create 3D from mask and export as STL.
You can then calculate the volume by opening this file as a solid body in Solidworks (as described by Mehmet Burtaç Eren).
MIMICS has add-ons like 3-Matic which can help you modify the 3D segmented data before exporting as an STL file.
Slicer is a free alternative to MIMICS. However, I have not used Slicer.
There are several ways for this purpose, easiest one is voxel based, counting. STL based file formats can be used for this purpose but closed and manifold problems may be encountered. Do not hesitate to contact me.
