I agree with colleagues' opinions that we need to adapt to the surrounding circumstances, because it is a new experience for professors before students, and we need to be familiar with many electronic programs and urge students to be familiar with them, and we also need to encourage our students and reassure them that it is a temporary period. And that we must cooperate together to end this crisis in peace and so that the efforts of this period do not go unsuccessful, and we must also try to break the routine of boredom by using various means of education and in order to motivate students to enter lectures and interact with them.
Connect with your fellow teachers and teachers around the world.
Shooting the breeze with teachers isn’t just good for your social circles. It reinforces the meaningful work teachers do in their classrooms because they know they’re not doing it alone. It is possible to create own blog and share useful instruments which teachers can use in their education process: https://educationpakhomova.blogspot.com
We faced with a problem what we have never stumbled before so together we can manage with stress.
There is no change in teaching content but in the way of delivering lectures and interactions with the students. This new process is not at all difficult as many of us are doing this, so have confidence and can do attitude. Take out some time to relax and listen some good music; will act as stress reliever. Last but most important thing is, take it easy!
It is a complex situation that involves affective and cognitive factors, so a multifocal strategy should be sought, thinking about: affective support to the teacher; spaces for teachers to share their achievements and difficulties (weekly or biweekly web conferencing sessions); training for online work management (lack of management leads to overload, which generates greater anxiety); psychological support; training for online teaching (feeling better prepared, self-esteem and confidence increases and also reduces anxiety); create online spaces for targeted collective physical activities; etc...
Any form of job probably got the taste of what is stressed -out is , especially in the area of education , since we already know what it is like before the Pandemic we have to find ways to chew it slowly... by educating people what the disease is and what power can education do to stop this spread of infection .We will have to stand our ground and never let stress get us swallowed us whole.
The truth is that it is difficult to manage stress due to so many situations such as: internet connection problems, students who do not have access to the internet, the cost of having the necessary resources (computer, internet line, adequate environment) for teaching and distance learning, with all of this it is almost impossible not to feel stress.
- Training of how to use technologie to build the lecture, classroom and how delivery the content.
-Making sure that they are physically and mentally healthy. To do that you can give to them meditation and yoga class possibilities and also hiring more people preventing burnout.
The isolation of COVID, working from home (assuming that teachers have remained employed), adapting to online teaching and overall changes to normal daily routines will have brought stress to many teachers.
My employer and section of the university organized an excellent 'Return to Work Mindfulness and Wellbeing' briefing, which primary purpose served to acknowledge that transitioning back to work after COVID would bring its own challenges. Both our personal identities and priorities might have altered in months away from work. It was good to be reminded of mainly commonsense but also research underpinned advice related to self-care.
Look after yourself all you teachers out there so that you can continue to do an empathetic and altruistic job in turn caring about your students' wellbeing!
I completed my thesis based on this topic in 2020, researching school staff wellbeing during the Covid19 pandemic. I am currently working with my supervisors on publication. I myself am a primary teacher in Victoria so have lived the experience while researching it.
In my opinion the best way to manage this is through supportive leadership that foster a collaborative work environment, enabling teachers to be involved in the decision making and utilize their particular expertise effectively.
I think the simple possible way to avoid stress in teaching profession during this pandemic is to lower our expections form students, if compared with normal situation.
by using multiple teaching strategies in the session, like 10 min of slides, then 20 minutes group discussion, then waching a video about the lesson, then pools questions about the film....etc.
To face the professional pressure in teaching during this epidemic, we must make double efforts to prepare the lecture according to the approved electronic means and encourage students to join the electronic workshop to raise their scientific level in this exceptional circumstance
I agree with colleagues' opinions that we need to adapt to the surrounding circumstances, because it is a new experience for professors before students, and we need to be familiar with many electronic programs and urge students to be familiar with them, and we also need to encourage our students and reassure them that it is a temporary period. Dear @Yashwant Singh Rawal, Yes. Humankind has survived many such situations by finding out solutions to those problems.
If we expect the unexpected to happen, there will be no stress.
I would like to say during these times (making use of this -as opportunity) if one acquires new skills (computer, painting, singing, new languages etc..) then his/her energy is productively channelised (there will be less stress).
Different teaching aids like 10 or 15 minutes of teaching video clips, PP slides, academic scripts provides by email or whats-app, zoom classes, assignments and term papers making could be helped to release teaching pressure in amid of the corona pandemic.
By just taking it easy and not stress over every little detail because this pandemic has affected everybody and all of us are going through these hardships so we should take it easy and progress in a step by step approach.
There are different ways and techniques of managing stress during this pandemic. For instance, connecting with fellow teachers may reduce stress, because they are also going through the same conditions, and it will reduce the feeling of alienation. Use of simple and flexible assessment tools may help in reducing the stress of online classes.
In a pandemic and self-isolation regime, burnout and stress are becoming common problems. Unlike the beginning of quarantine, anxiety exacerbates the length of the situation and an additional factor of uncertainty, so everyone needs effective ways to restore emotional balance. I am sure that following the online meeting, everyone will find a practice for themselves that will help to align their psychological state.
A man, unlike an animal, exists all the time in a social environment, in the context of events. Therefore, dealing with stress is inevitable. It helps us develop and adapt to new environmental conditions and circumstances. Hyperstress, of course, has a destructive effect on the body, however, hypostress (its absence) interferes with our life, reducing the motivation for activity.
Anthropologists and philosophers believe that people, by definition, gravitate towards comfort: a good climate, coziness, affordable food ... If basic needs are met, then stress moves to new levels, for example, into the social aspect of our life. “Stress is an impulse that enables us to move forward. Experiencing stress, we give a kind of evolutionary response to the events taking place, ”- this is purely my opinion.
Stress is something that lives inside us. You can not only fight with it, but also negotiate: you can manage it in such a way that it does not negatively affect our emotional state, health and daily life.
I think you can refer to existing practices. Meditation and psychotherapy, in particular Gestalt therapy, are helpful.
It is important to develop and observe the correct daily routine, in order to avoid insomnia, give up invigorating activities before bedtime, as well as negative experiences and memories. A good technique called "Memory Castle" is the reproduction of pleasant memories and positive experiences in the thoughts.
Dear Yashwant Singh Rawal Stress is the norm; everyday (including or excluding the pandemic period) we are exposed to some kind of stress. To get relieved of stress, we all are endowed with some degree of resilience. To manage the stress, we use various strategies such as escape, avoidance and tolerance. Of course, escape and avoidance are well utilized techniques of stress management.
Many pressures and stresses, the lecturer exposed to it, especially in Iraq the pandemic, electricity unavailability, and the security situation, its real disaster but it's our reality should be accepted anyway,
maybe the pandemic is the last problem which Iraqis thinking about
Stress initially it is a disturbance of our mind . It is our mental weakness & we have to carry out our assignment strongly under our positive manner .
For a person in a academic field has to control & accept the challenge of his life .In order to avoid this situation of such nature , we have to take recourse to meditation , for keeping our mind calm & quite to accept the challenge of our profession in our Covid -19 .
Our mind is a challenge for accepting the situation even in our academic field .
Very Good question . One should prepare the material via online and we can also make use of other online video to fetch the material, and teach in more effective way .
