Arduino-based data loggers, sensing systems and actuators are pervading into other science disciplines (e.g., natural sciences) as a useful, low-cost tool for monitoring and data collection. Building on that, there is arguably now a strong push towards scientists and researchers having interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral skills.

The question, then, is how do we train those outside the computation/technical domain to be comfortable/effective users of technology without being muddled by computational/networking/technical jargon? And what methods work best in and out of the classroom?
