How can I effectively insulate one side of a stainless steel substrate for electrochemical measurements in 1M KOH (CV, LSV, EIS, and long-term stability tests), since options like epoxy resin, Kapton tape, magic tape, and nail polish have failed to provide reliable insulation?
Hi Akshay Kumar Sonwane , I think the key is ensuring that the surface of the stainless steel that you’re insulating is fully wetted out with the insulating material. When you press for instance a sticker on a window, you can see from the other side that there are air pockets in the surface contact and the KOH solution would then seep between the surfaces. So maybe an RTV sealant would work, but it will be essential to clean the surface first with some solvents and dry it thoroughly, and then press and wipe the sealant into the surface well before allowing it to cure. But teflon tape gets corroded when using 2M, 3M and 6M KOH electrolytes. I am using SS Substrate.
Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. I used the proper ratio of resin and hardener, followed the curing process correctly, and tested it in 1M KOH. It worked effectively.
