I am recently working on laser cladding of diamond coatings. However, when I checked the microstructure, I could barely find the diamond particles in the coating. I think this might be attributed to the low density of diamond. Does anyone have any idea how to mitigate this issue? I already used pretty low laser power and fast scanning speed. The introduction of inter-layer to lower the melting point seems did not have too much improvement.

Equipment: direct diode laser with off-axis powder feeding system.
