I fabricated a scaffold include alginate and crosslinked it with calcium chloride. despite controlling all conditions such as concentration of calcium chloride solution and the time, I couldn't reach the proper mechanical strength. I will be thankful if some body has a same experience and can help me. thanks
Hi, I think the following measures will increase the mechanical strength:
- Use alginate with higher molecular weight (or higher viscosity).
- Increase the concentration of the alginate solution
- Use other salts such as barium chloride.
-You can mix alginate solution with other polymers (with carboxilic acid functional group) such as carboxymethylcellulose (Ultra high viscosity grade, see sigma 21904)

Fabrication method has not been mentioned in your question. The aim of the study is also important (bone reheneration, tendon TE, wound healing ???). This article might help for crosslinking of aliginate hydrogels.
