I am performing mapping for some hydrogeological items using GIS and I have a problem with the clarity of the exported maps from it even after I raised their resolution into 1000 dpi, how can I fix this please?!
Maybe the resolution of your source maps/materials are low. The increase in dpi only works if the resolution of the source maps/materials are high to start with.
There are a number of things that can impact on the export quality. Some things that may be worth checking: When you export the image, export as a png file with 600dpi resolution. Sometimes, your screen display (if an older model) can have issues with processing this once viewed as a file, but it should be a very clear image if dropped into a file like a word document for example. As Frans above mentioned, make sure the lines are 'thick' enough. I use a mix of 0.4 and 1 weight. Also in this respect - If you have edited the 'view' clipping on the data frame to a certain extent, this can mess with the clarity of the external border line, especially if the generalization between layers is slightly different.
before exporting the image you can try to improve the visibility of the scene by using in ArcGIS the image enhancement tools: in the main menu bar click on Windows - Image Analysis. In the Image Analysis Window you activate (blue) the image you want to process. Then, you use the Display, Processing and Filter tools until you are satisfied with the results. After this procedure you can follow the suggestions of the above contributors by exporting the result with 600 dpi.
I guess everyone has already explained enough solutions for this issue. However, I would suggest you to use QGIS for accessing better illustration tools. And please consider the page layout size on which you are exporting the map.
