I have established Hagenia abyssinica BSO, but now it has become close and needs thinning to maintain the appropriate size of the stands. I conducted the first data measurement (DBH and height) and then analyzed it to make the first thinning. However, I did not get the mechanism to identify the female and male stands to maintain the balance of each sex. Unless identifying the sex of each stand, it does not make sense because it may be left more male by removing the female.
If anyone can have any best experience on Hagenia abyssinica BSO establishment, please share the experience. It is challenging for us to manage the established breeding seed orchard (BSO).
What is the trend and experience in thinning plans and managing the Hagenia abyssinica BSO?
