I realised that marshall and swift index stopped publishing factor after 2012, is there any alternative to this? Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index CEPCI? But CEPCI looks less complicated than Marshall and Swift Index. It is just the estimation from previous year multiply by the cost factor and upscaling/downscaling factors. It appears that the formula using M&S index have a more comprehensive formula to estimate the cost of equipment, any comment?

The CEPCI is, in my opinion, the best index for escalating the prices of chemical process equipment from prior years to a more recent reference point. As for current costs for chemical process equipment, the best tool I am aware of are the cost models included with Aspen Plus process simulation software. You must pay a fee to obtain a license to run their software, of course. Contacting multiple equipment vendors to obtain "budget" quality pricing for a few specific sizes is the most accurate method, of course, but more time consuming. In addition to Peters and Timmerhaus, other chemical process economics books with cost data include Chemical Engineering Process Design and Economics, A Practical Guide by Ulrich and Vasudeven, and Product and Process Design Principles by Seider, Seador, Lewin, and Widagdo.
