This is a simple operation which is supported by most of the open source as well as commercially available geospatial software tools or in fact simply any database. In my example (check attached image) I used ArcMap from Esri. I converted the text file into a .csv file after downloading the fire data from the UoM ftp server. I then imported the .csv file into ArcMap and displayed the X (lat.) and Y(long.) fire points to get a visual perspective. Finally I used the statistics within the table to count the fire hot spots.

You may want to try open source tools like GDAL, QGIS etc.

Thank you for such a quick reply. What I need to know is how do you get those fire count data from the file. Like I mentioned before there is no as such fire count parameter in that .txt file. If I use Fire radiative power to get the fire count, then I need to set a cut off value so that I can take pixel greater that cut off value as fire count. 

In very less number of cases FRP value is zero. For rest of the cases it have some value. Can you help me with that. 

Hi Arindam, thanks for clarifying your question. You are right, the MCD14ML table on page 36 from the User's guide does not contain any information about the fire count. I haven't used this fire product therefore I am not the right person to give you an answer. However, if it makes sense to calculate the fire count by running a simple query of FRP > 0, it can be done easily. However, the question is whether this is right? If I were you, I would write to Prof. Louis Giglio from the University of Maryland for confirmation. Sorry for the lack of a precise answer.
