How to form an amide bond between the -COOH of a polymer and -NH2 group on a polystyrene bead?

I have a polymer sodium polystyrenesulfonate with one -COOH group at one terminal. This polymer is water soluble. I also have polystyrene microsphere (dispersed in water) with many amine groups on its surface. I wish to couple polymer with microsphere via amide bond formation using EDC/Sulfo-NHS two step coupling technique. Please suggest me the pH, ratio of materials, etc. so that the reaction can proceed successfully. Can I do it without using buffer? Thank you in advance.
