I am working on a paper to compare the experimental result of three different materials. I am facing nonlinear stress-strain curves. if I want to calculate the modulus and compare them to each other. what would be the best way? should I just take the linear portion of the curve? if I do such, only half of the elastic regions curve will be taken into account.
You can use tangent modulus or secant modulus.
The "origin tangent modulus" will characterize the material.
Or use the bending modulus / flexural modulus as I did for concrete, see my project CC. This way I implemented the whole stress-strain-curve.

What I have done was to calculate a portion of the elastic area which looks linear. I calculated using regression tool of excel (data > data analysis > regression). and calculated the regression between A and B shown in the attached figure. is it alright to do it this way?
The problem is the points A and B are different depending on the standard e.g. for concrete or mansonry, so the "elastic" modulus is not comparable - it will only work using the origin and the tangent in the origin. Or the origin-secant-modulus (flexural modulus) to describe the whole curve.
