I want to find accurate locations of some static objects to be used as landmarks for localizing other mobile object. As the landmarks will be used to localize other object, their own location must be accurate. Kindly suggest some practical methods for accurate positioning of static objects(landmark).

Hi there, if you are interested in visual localization (using camera), you can use some visual landmarks (e.g. QR codes or ArUco codes) that can be easily detectable. If you know the relative position of each static code, and add another such landmark on top of the moving obstacle, you can derive its location using geometry (or OpenCV methods)

I used the markers on the sheet of paper and if you are using visual SLAM system then try to move the camera on that, it will detect the feature point. After recording the video try to convert into dataset and passed to your SLAM algorithm. In this way you will find the localization of the static landmark.

For the accurate position of a landmark it necessary to define first certain topics, like how the position and the land mark are connected together (e.g. does the house has only one position or do you want to specify for example only the edge of a house as the landmark). Background of this is, that with this definition also certain accuracy requirements are connected (e.g. if the landmark house has only one position, this position only needs to be accurate in the area of 2m).
After this usually you have different classes of accuracy, for which different position determination methods can be used. After this, it necessary to know how many landmarks to you want to determine, because if you want to measure a big number you would need some type of automatic detection system like SLAM, mobile mapping, ... . For smaller numbers usually the landmarks can be determined by hand, e.g. measuring them with GNSS, tachymetry,....

@tariq islam .Use dead reckoning.it is the process of calculating current position of some moving object by using a previously determined position, or fix, and then incorporating estimations of speed, heading direction, and course over elapsed time.
