I want to develop a database of reference in Mendeley Desktop from a word file which has a reference list which was composed from Mendeley Desktop by another author.
I'm not sure whether you can retrive the references from a word file. Yet, if all the files are stored on Mendeley, you can right click on any paper you choose from your library and select copy as 'formatted citation'. and then paste in the 'notes' section. The downside of working on files like this is that you need to work on each single file indiv, idually. Perhaps, you can check what you can do with Mendeley's word plug-in feature.
Actually, I want to regenerate there bibliography database from a word file which was initially developed through mendelay. From word bibliography is ok as you also mentioned it. Thank you though.
Emrulla Spahiu this worked for me as well - a very nice solution.
Instead of copying it to zotero, I made a *.bib file in a text editor and directly imported it into mendeley.
Note, that it does not match PDFs, that you may have had saved in the original Mendeley database. You will need to link/add them manually.
Alternatively, if I get a word document that has been created with Mendeley, I just click on any citation, then edit it and the plugin automatically prompts a message like: "this document contains references that are not included in your Mendeley database. Dou you want to import them?" If you follow clicking "Yes", it automatically ads the missing references to your Mendeley database and for those that are duplicate asks wether you want to keep the new or the old entry. I find it a quite elegant solution.
