We have been repeatedly surveying areas thousands of km from the coast. I think critical to use magnetic data from laboratories in the continent who also might be influenced by local thunderstorms. One possible way is to attach a magnetometer to an oceanographic anchored buoy.

I can analyze if an anomaly is real by observing its behavior in two paralel lines but that will not account for diurnal variation at the day of each acquisition. Therefore, amplitude and any estimates for depth might be erroneous.
