Dear Bhoj R Singh thank you for this interesting technical question which has already been asked five years ago. Because of the coronavirus pandemic your questions has now got an entirely new meaning and importance. In this context please have a look at the following relevant links:
India coronavirus: Can it make enough vaccines to meet demand?
Dear Bhoj R Singh right now the situation in India is worrying the entire world. In fact, the so-called "double mutation" variant of the coronavirus, called B.1.617, was first detected in India with two mutations -- the E484Q and L452R. For more information about this please have a look at the following relevant link:
India's "double mutation" covid virus variant is worrying the world
If you regularly watch the TV news you will certainly know that the COVID-19 situation in India has escalated in recent days like a "corona tsunami". Various countries around the world are trying to help India in this very difficult situation e.g. by supplying oxygen:
As India breaks another global Covid-19 record and hospitals run out of oxygen, countries pledge assistance and aid
Thank you Dear dr. Frank T. Edelmann, for your concern about India, the COVID-19 situation is grim due to rampant corruption in the system, ignoring epidemiologist and those who can suggest honestly. Only those who can butter the bread of flawed leadership are liked and certainly, such people can't create bread and butter.
I have an impression that the situation with the virus is worse in many other countries than in India. The media speak in absolute number (which is actually a misinformation); India has more than a billion people; so it is normal that it has many cases. I will not compute now, but I think that - relative to population - the situation is worse in many countries (in Europe too).
Frank T. Edelmann - "India breaks another global Covid-19 record ..." (a title) - Which record? Record in relation to what?
Let me make a brief approximate calculation. My country (cca 4 millions) had 44 deaths yesterday. India had some 3300 death, but India has some 300 times more people than my country.
If you multiply 44 by 300, you get 13.200; if you divide this number with the number of actual deaths in India (3300), you get 4. This means that we have 4 times (400%) more deaths per capita (relative to population) than India has. Correct me if I am wrong. I have the impression that the same holds for many countries in Europe.
Absolute numbers say nothing; such numbers are a media misinfotainment. The same holds for pollution and many other things. If numbers are not put in a proper context, they are misinformation.
PS: Regarding "records", Germany (83 millions) had 354 deaths on 27 April 2021 (says web); this is also much higher rate (per capita) than in India (1.352 billion, 3300 deaths).
Dear Mario Radovan you are only partially true because Indian data is not believable, it is highly depreciated. The death number shown are just tip of iceberg.
Bhoj R Singh - Thank you for the information; I heard about that, but not about such huge differences.
Anyway, I watch a couple of global news channels, and my comment was mostly a criticism of the media discourse. A month or so ago, there was a terrible situation in Europe (many countries were mentioned); a couple of weeks ago, there was a terrible situation in Latin America (Europe was forgotten); last several days, the media speak only about India (Latin America is forgotten). In sum, the media aim to create a drama rather than to inform people.
Dear Mario Radovan, I was associated with animal disease reporting and now a critique of Indian Disease data, it is not at all believable. You may read my blog in this context
