There exists a real problem in my research work, I am working in a field of absolutely controversial discussion about current historical questions. I intend to enrich published books or book chapters with figures that deliver evidence on the first glance. But the help center says: This doesn't work, the system allows to do so only with articles and conference papers. So I am constrained to write "article" - and not chapter - in the biographical reference scheme - but this is confusing for quoting. Is there any advice to manage the problem?
Hein - many book publishers allow (and encourage) useful pedagogy - such as figures, tables, case studies etc. Without them - texts are often very 'dry and dense' and discourage readers and purchasers. Author 'help centres' are generic and not as useful as contacting publishing administrators within your discipline. If the answer still is 'no figures' I would go to another publisher.
Thank you very much, Dean, for your idea, "Uploading figures" is a special service of ResearchGate, so it has nothing to do with placing figures in a book or the interests of publishers. As I checked the help center of RG to manage the problem, I was really astonished to see that only "articles" butt not "chapters" get support to use the function "figures". Nevertheless, thank you!
Hi Hein - not a problem. Apologies - I didn't realise that you meant the RG help centre. I thought that you were referring to a publishing house. Someone might have a more appropriate answer for you.
No doubt the addition of figures to a published paper will make a positive improvement for the benefit of the reader. In certain cases, like writing about a particular geographical location without a map would produce a rather poor account with small readership.
I guess in the future articles will also include short videos, not just figures, because they will make the paper easier to understand.
I am sure RG would add the feature you want, if there is a demand, or if you ask them.
