For my thesis, I conducted consumer research in which participants had to rank from 9 different snacks, only the two most preferred (1st and 2nd position) and the two least preferred (8th and 9th position).
Now my data contains information about the two most preferred and the two least preferred, but not about the positions 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th.
Therefore, I would like to randomly assign to these positions one of the snacks that have not been chosen yet.
Does anyone know how I can apply this in SPSS?

Out of curiosity, can you explain why you want to do this as opposed to, for example, assigning all of them '5' (or scaling the data in some way)? Given that you are adding random error to this I assume that you would want to do this a few thousand times for any statistical purpose. Also, by random do you mean for each draw having the values 3-7 equally likely and independent, or did you want each person to have the each of the values 3-7, so essentially just shuffling these values?
To add to what Daniel Wright said above. If you're not interested in doing anything with these left over data, wouldn't it be easier to simply omit them altogether?
Daniel Wright Blaine Tomkins I would like to clarify some things. I would like to use all the data because in order to run a conjoint analysis I need to have a full ranking of all the data.
Daniel Wright And answering your question, I would like that from the data of each participant, from the 5 snacks that they haven't ranked, that a position on the ranking (being from 3rd to 7th) is randomly assigned.
